Goodbye Old Friend.

I never like getting rid of bikes, but this one is extra heart breaking. She's been everywhere with me, ridden trails all over Australia and lived the life of at least five different bikes.

Sadly, she has to go, but luckily she's going to my brother. So at least I'll still have visiting rights and he may even let me take her out once in a while when I'm in town.

She's half old half new; with her wheels coming from the old Kona commuter, King headset remaining fixed, light weight Stylo cranks from the garage and the BB7 brakes from the Slingshot. She sports a new bottom bracket (downhill spec for singlespeed grinding), new bars and stem with the most awesome chocolate coloured grips (they actually came packaged in faux chocolate wrapping paper!!), 21t Surly rear cog, Surly Tuggnut (with integrated bottle opener) to keep the rear wheel aligned and the rider beered up, and mixture of Kenda Klaw and Karma front and rear tyres.

There's nothing like a Sunday afternoon in the workshop to finish off a weekend of riding.

Nerdliness.

I bought a new blog machine yesterday. The old 12" Powerbook was getting slower and slower and a local retailer was doing a 10% off deal on puters, including Macs! My car is at the mechanic so it was an interesting ride home on the fixie with a two thousand dollar laptop swinging from the bars.

It's black, it's a Mac, it's sexy and it's fast. Now where's that pocket protector?

Pt Douglas Trip - Part III

Farewelling Pt Douglas and bound for Cairns we headed into the mountains to visit Karanda. We could hear the roar of Baron Falls from such a distance, no photo can do it justice.

Where else can you buy a crocodile head for your nephew in Tokyo?

Next stop was Cairns.

A tropical Amsterdam? Lots of bikes and lots of beer!

No visit is complete without a visit to my favourite Japanese shop.

The life of a photographers girlfriend....waiting....

The next morning was our last on the road. Along with our last waterfall - Josephine Falls.

Our last rain forest.

Our last beach - Mission Beach.

Our last sugar refinery!

And our last run in with dinosaur sized birds that could obviously kill you and your 1950's Morris Minor sedan. Thank god they can't fly!!!!! But just in case they could we packed the Rover and headed for civilisation.

They say every good thing ends badly. Finishing this trip was heartbreaking!

Pt Douglas Trip - Part II

After a day of swimming and walking we watched the sunset from the Sailaway IV.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

There was a cheaper option, but with no complimentary Champagne, or guaranty of return.

Finishing the night with a stroll through town, a Mojito and another bath under the stars.

Pt Douglas Trip - Part I

Rach and I headed up to Pt Douglas for the week. The weather turned itself on for us and the view through the windscreen become more spectacular kilometre by kilometre.

We decided to stay in a villa at a place called Pink Flamingo.

It'd be pretty hard not to be energised by the colours surrounding your every move. Even the kitchen made me want to cook.

We quickly found ouselves retired to the couch with a bottle of Bacardi.

There's nothing like candle and star light while enjoying a bath under the palms in our own private villa courtyard.

Mossman Gorge was beautiful and spectacular. Rach and I eventually settled into the crispy cool waters.

Then ventured into the forest to explore the natural wonders.
